What CAN I EXPECT?
How long is the service?
Our service begins at 10:30 am and goes on until about 11:30 am. We have free snacks, tea and coffee available at all times. You may feel free to stick around the church afterwards for a time of fellowship. On the first Sunday of every month we have a monthly meal downstairs in the cafeteria.
What happens on a regular Sunday morning?
Our Sunday church service begins with a time of singing worship (contemporary worship songs), which we invite you to participate in without any pressure, fear or manipulation. After a brief time of intermission where we greet one another, one of our pastors will give a message on the Word of God (our messages are taught so that the Scripture is applied to our lives). We then usually close with a short time of prayer and worship.
Are there any programs for children?
We believe that the message of God's love for us through his son Jesus is for all ages. We currently have a preschool ministry for kids 2-5 years of age, an elementary ministry for children that are 6-11, and a youth group Bible student for our junior high school and high school students.
What should I do during the offering time?
Every Sunday gathering we have time for people to consider giving to Hope East Queens. If you are new here, please do not feel obligated to give anything unless your heart leads you to. The offering goes towards serving the neighborhood of Bayside, Queens and the city of New York, various local and overseas missions works, our local missional communities, staff salaries, and other costs associated with running a church service such as rent, equipment and supplies.
What should I do during Communion?
We practice Communion on the second Sunday of the month. Communion is a time for us as a Christian community to remember what Christ has done for us on the cross. We do this by having people come forward to receive bread and wine (grape juice) which reflects Christ's last supper with his disciples before his death and resurrection. One of the pastors will give clear direction as to how and who should take it each and every time.
How should I dress?
You will fit in whether you are dressed casually or in a suit.
